Great question! There typically aren't cameras installed in large-scale RC models like this F-14 XXL due to weight and complexity constraints. However, some hobbyists do mount small cameras on the exterior for a unique flying perspective. But the exterior cameras are a rare thing to find on scale models as the fixing equipment usually entails some kind of glue. and not many scale pilots was to ruin there pristine scale finish with glue marks

Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the video of the Yak 110. Pilot Luke Oliver really is a master at the controls. In regards to the engine controls the Two Prop Gasser engines are tied into a single throttle stick so one channel controls both, The Turbine however is completely isolated on a seperate channel and the pilot using the slider bars on the rear of the transmitter, normally used for Flaps and similar auxiliary controls to control the Turbine Throttle speeds

That's awesome! The Jets Munt Merlin sounds like a perfect fit for the Yak 110. You should definitely go for it! These tri-engine Yaks are a blast to see in the air, and I bet building one with that kind of powerplant would be an incredible project. @Bravo303 6 Ship's all out of Norfolk. 5 Aircraft Carriers and one big deck amphib. I was on Coral Sea, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Reagan, Iwo Jima, and Enterprise. Flight deck operations directing aircraft.

That is quite the career path and the fact you served on the Big E is proper awesome, Now help me out on this last bit in my knowledge gap Flight deck operations and aircraft handling was that Green shirts ?

@Bravo303 There are 2 main components to flight deck operations; the Air Wing (squadrons) and ship's company personnel assigned to the Air Department. The green shirts in the squadrons are maintainers (engines, electronics, air frames). The green shirts in the Air Department work on catapults and arresting gear. They are assigned to V-2 Division. The movement of aircraft is all handled by V-1 Division. The directors wear yellow shirts. The tow tractor drivers, elevator operators, and chock/chainmen wear blue. The red shirts and silver hotsuit guys of Crash and Salvage are also part of V-1. V-3 Division is the Hangar Deck and V-4 Division stores, purifies, and pumps all the jet fuel. I absolutely loved Big E. It was my retirement command, and I was the leading chief of V-1. I had around 170 sailors working for me, and it was my best crew ever.

Interesting point! This F-14 is a giant scale model, and sometimes with larger models, subtler weathering effects can get lost. What kind of weathering effects do you typically prefer on your models?

@@Bravo303 Fair enough. Your video has it appear well balanced when in the air. It seems like I recently saw a F4 that was done similar. I don't think it was the CARF F4. The CARF model I thought had tasteful weather in what I would expect on a maintained aircraft during its period of operation. Personally, I either like models very weathered or very clean. Weathered models showing rubbed off paint exposing the metal underneath show great modeler care. The reason I don't like the panel lines is that it ruins the concept of well done weathering and almost looks cartoon-ish.

That's a cool idea! While these turbine-powered models can't replicate the smoke of a real F-14, some larger jet-powered models can. Maybe that's a project for another day! Thanks for watching!

That's a good question! There are a couple of reasons why RC pilots might choose to fly with drop tanks on their models, even if the real aircraft didn't use them in that specific instance. Scale aesthetics: While not historically accurate for every situation, some pilots enjoy the complete look with drop tanks.

It does look good with them on, Make this already Huge model look that much larger

Thanks so much! We were thrilled with how the flight went, and the cameraman really captured its awesomeness. It is a bummer Tomcats aren't more common these days, but hopefully seeing this XXL version in action brought back some good memories!

I spent 4 years in close proximity with the F14 on the flight deck of an Aircraft carrier, nothing like standing next to the F14 with its afterburners fully open at night on the catapult ready for launch. Shook the deck I am happy I got to experience that.

That's incredible! I can only imagine the feeling of being on the deck with an F-14 launching. Must have been an amazing experience. This XXL version definitely gives a taste of that power, but there's nothing quite like the real thing!

That's a great point! The SU series are fantastic aircraft as well. I just have a soft spot for the F-14's variable wings.

With F110 engines replacing the TF33s, the F-14 would've been a BEAST.

You're absolutely right! The F-110 engines offered a significant power boost over the TF33s. It would have improved the F-14's acceleration, climb rate, and overall performance.

@Bravo303 I used to fly RC in the 1970s with my Dad but never went back to it after he passed away, but my son flies 737s so I get plenty of stories about flying. Now I'm just an enthusiastic spectator.

These models are getting a bit more affordable in general although the last few years have inflated the figures slightly higher than some of us were used too Bare in mind that all these 100cc airframes have 80/60 & 40cc equivalents where the price (for the most part) comes down in scale with the engine requirement reduction
